The search for the UK's sportiest tots has begun!

Sports Tot award
Lilly May, Sports Tot 2011 winner

The Haven Fun & Fitness campaign Sports Tot of the Year Award is looking for the UK’s sportiest pre-schoolers. The campaign which provides free sports equipment to help encourage under-fives to have fun getting fit is looking for youngsters who show promising sporting talent.

Naomi Woodstock, Haven Fun & Fitness campaign manager explains; “we’re passionate about promoting physical activities for all under-fives. The Sports Tot of the Year Award allows us to seek out exceptional youngsters and provide them with the opportunity to improve their potential.”

The Sports Tot of the Year Award is looking for youngsters who will be an inspiration to other children, parents and early year’s practitioners. These children will demonstrate the benefits of getting involved in sports from a young age; the confidence it can bring; the co-ordination which develops as well as the enjoyment of being physically active.

In recognition of their sporting potential, the winners will receive a year’s professional coaching in the sport of their choice. And to help inspire other children to get active their pre-school will receive a big box of fun, age appropriate sports equipment for everyone to use!

Parents, relatives and early years practitioners can nominate any child (with parental consent) under the age of five who shows signs of special sporting talent and who would benefit from additional coaching or lessons. From skills on the pitch to gymnastics the winner can be involved in any physical activity; they just need to demonstrate exceptional sporting potential!

Registration is easy, just log on to www.havenfunfitness.com, click on the Sports Tot Award link and fill in the entry form. Last date for entries is 27th April. The 2012 UK Sports Tots of the Year, (one girl, one boy) will be announced in May.

“Many of the UK’s sporting heroes, from Rory McIlroy to Andy Murray, demonstrated their exceptional talent before they had even started school. We hope to recognise and reward those children who could be the UK’s next sporting inspiration and support them to reach their full potential” says Naomi Woodstock.

Haven Fun & Fitness awards for ‘Sports Tot of the Year’

Two deserving youngsters have recently become the first ever ‘Sports Tots of the Year’ in a nationwide search by the Haven Fun & Fitness campaign to find Britain’s sportiest tots.

Four year old Billy Bright, of Twickenham and three year old Lilly May Moyle of Exeter has both received awards in recognition of their sporting prowess, with judges describing them as ‘an inspiration’ to other youngsters.

Judges on behalf of the Haven Fun & Fitness Campaign were unanimous in their decision to make the ‘Most Sporting Potential’ award to Billy, whilst Lilly May received an award for her gymnastic skills.

Billy is already showing exceptional talent across a number of different sports but it was the video of his golf swing that made him stand out from other nominees. Billy also excels at tennis and rugby, can swim and will happily have a go at body boarding and snorkelling and loves skiing.

Three year old Lilly-May demonstrated exceptional floor and balance skills as well as a commitment to succeed that is well beyond her years.

The judges commended the determination – and obvious enthusiasm of both award winners saying, ‘It’s so important that the children actually enjoy their activities. Both our Award winners demonstrate a real enjoyment of their chosen sport and that was really important to us when we made the final decision.’

Parents and carers were asked to nominate under-5’s in a choice of three different categories – ‘Gymnastics’, ‘Tennis’ and ‘Most Sporting Potential’. Haven hoped to highlight and encourage early potential and reward youngsters showing unusual talent with additional coaching or lessons in their chosen sport.

The Fun & Fitness Campaign received dozens of nominations from all over the country but two winning tots really stood out for their talents across a range of sports.

A spokesperson for Haven Fun & Fitness said, ‘We’re passionate about promoting physical activities for all under-5’s. Exercise is so important to the health and well-being of younger children and yet sadly many children don’t meet the recommended daily minimum. Over the last three years Haven Fun & Fitness has benefitted thousands of under-5’s all around the UK by providing free sports equipment to pre-schools and nurseries to help make fitness more fun.

Launching the Sports Tot of the Year Awards has allowed us to seek out some exceptional youngsters and provide them with valuable opportunities to improve their potential.’

Organisers have confirmed that the Sports Tot Awards will be an annual event and Haven Fun & Fitness will be looking to receive nominations for next years’ awards when they re-launch their giveaway campaign in September.

Will Billy Bright be next Rory McIlroy?

Four year old Billy Bright has just been awarded Haven Fun & Fitness ‘Sports Tot of the Year’ and is hoping his prize might make him the next youngest US Open winner.

A nationwide search for the tot with most sporting potential was conducted by the Haven Fun & Fitness Campaign to encourage talent and enthusiasm for sports in preschoolers. Judges knew Billy would be an inspiration to other sporting tots as soon as they saw the video of his golf swing and read the impressive list of his sporting achievements, all before the age of four.

Award winners will receive a year’s coaching in their chosen sport and as a keen golfer Billy is hoping to follow in the footsteps Rory Mcilroy and be the next youngest winner of the US Open with professional golf lessons.
Billy’s proud mum, Ellie said “Billy has always loved being active from a very young age and playing golf and tennis has given him great hand eye co-ordination. Playing sport gives Billy a lot of confidence and helps wear out some of his energy! I can’t wait to see how his golf swing improves with professional coaching.”

The Haven Fun & Fitness campaign launched the Sports Tot of the Year awards to find those youngsters with exceptional sporting potential and provide the opportunity to develop their natural talent.

Naomi Woodstock from the Haven Fun & Fitness campaign commented “We had some fantastic entries for the title of Sports Tot of the Year but Billy stood out not just from his remarkable sporting prowess but also his enthusiasm. Whilst we were awed by his natural ability with a golf club we were also impressed by his eagerness to participate in tennis, rugby, swimming and even body boarding!”

Organisers have confirmed that the Sports Tot Awards will be an annual event and Haven Fun & Fitness will be looking to receive nominations for next years’ awards when they re-launch their giveaway campaign in September.
